MEN'S GOLF TAKES SEVENTH AT SPRING INVITATIONAL

April 24, 2006 The Dayton men's golf team wrapped up play hosting the UD Spring Invitational at Shaker Run on Monday afternoon. The Flyers "A" team took seventh place in the two-day event with a combined score of 939. Brett Gould fired a 76 to lead the way in the final round for the Flyers, who are now gearing up for the Atlantic 10 Championships May 5-7 in Orlando, Fla. at the Orange County National Golf Course. Gould's three-round total of 234 (82-76-76) was good for a tie for 14th overall. He finished one stroke behind teammate Rob Chappell, who was tied for 10th overall with a 233 (75-79-79). Despite a final round 83, Adam Myers finished third on the team with 239 (80-76-83) for the invitational putting him in 31st overall. Matt Friend and John Zaller rounded out UD's "A" line-up, each shooting a final round 80. Friend finished with a 240 (77-83-80), while Zaller went to the clubhouse at 241 (78-83-80). Cleveland State won the tournament, shooting 905 as a team. Sam Morton shot 235 (76-76-83) to lead the "B" team to a 12th place finish. Mike Molnar and Mitch Custenborder fired a 251 (78-85-88) and a 254 (81-79-94) respectively. Molnar finished in 56th place while Custenborder tied for 58th. Nick Trubee and Mark Juve rounded out the Flyer "B" Team with 62nd and 64th place finishes. Trubee combined for a 259 (82-82-95) while Juve shot a 266 (92-88-86) in the three-round event. |
