GOULD'S FINAL-ROUND 71 LEADS MEN'S GOLF AT BILLIKEN INVITATIONAL
April 12, 2005 ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Senior Brett Gould posted an even-par 71 in the final round to lead the University of Dayton men's golf team to a 12th place finish at the Billiken Invitational Tuesday at the Gateway National Golf Links. After carding his low round of the season in Monday's morning session with a 72, Gould did one better Tuesday to pace the Flyers in a competitive tournament hosted by Saint Louis University. The Carroll High School graduate tied for 23rd overall with a five-over par 218 over the three rounds at the 6,769-yard Gateway National course. Junior Adam Myers, who was UD's leader after the first two rounds Monday, shot a final round 74 and finished with a seven-over 220. Senior Tim Skufca recorded his low round of the spring season with a 73 Tuesday and finished tied for 48th with a 10-over 223. Seniors Bill Everding and A.J. Quinter shot 75 and 77 respectively Tuesday to round out the UD squad. Everding finished tied for 61st with a three-round total of 225. Quinter's 226 was good for tie for 68th. Austin Peay State University broke a tournament record with a 271 (837 overall, -15) in the final round to run away with the team title. The Governors topped second-place Western Illinois University by 22 strokes. APSU's Yoshio Yamamoto and Chris Barron shared the individual title with a tournament-record 207 (+6). The Flyers will have two week off before hosting the UD Spring Invitational April 24 and 25 at the Golf Club at Yankee Trace in Centerville. |
