MEN'S GOLF 14TH AFTER DAY ONE OF BILLIKEN INVITATIONAL
April 11, 2005 ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The University of Dayton men's golf team carded a 590 (290-300) in the first two rounds of the Billiken Invitational at the Gateway National Golf Links in St. Louis, Mo. Monday. The Flyers sit in 14th place heading into tomorrow's final round that begins at 8 a.m. The Flyers were off to a hot start in rainy weather at the 6,769 yard, par-71 Gateway National course. Junior Adam Myers (72), seniors A.J. Quinter (73) and Bill Everding (73) each posted their respective low-rounds of the spring season in the morning session, as the Flyers shot 290 as a team. Tied for 31st with one round to play, Myers is the leading golfer for the Flyers finishing with a four-over 146 (72-74). Senior Brett Gould is tied for 35th with a five-over 147 (72-75). Quinter sits at seven-over with a 149 (73-76) and is tied for 50th, while Everding (73-77) - playing in his hometown - and senior Tim Skufca (75-75) are each eight-over and tied for 55th. In a very competitive 18-team field, the Flyers are 14th but find themselves just 11 strokes out of the top five. The overall team leader is Austin Peay State University with an impressive 566 (-2), followed by the host St. Louis University 570 (+2), Western Illinois University 571 (+3), and Southeast Missouri State University 576 (+8). |
