The UD men's golf team struggled in their first tournament of the spring season as they finished in 17th place out of 18 teams at the William & Mary Invitational in Williamsburg, Virginia.

The veteran Flyer squad just couldn't find their groove Sunday and Monday, finishing with a 657 (+81) on the challenging par 72, 7,120 yard Green Course at the Golden Horseshoe Golf Club.

Dayton's top finisher was senior leader Brett Gould (Dayton, OH) who finished tied for 49th place carding a two-round total of 159 (78-81), putting him at +15 for the tournament. Following him was junior Adam Myers (Franklin, OH) at 164 (+20), tied for 74th. Senior Tim Skufka (Chardon, OH) finished with a 165 (+21), tied for 79th. And senior A.J. Quinter (Minster, OH) came in with a 169 (+25), tied for 88th. Rounding out the scores for the Flyers was senior Bill Everding (St. Louis, MO), at 173 (+29) in 92nd place.

The host College of William & Mary took the crown with a two-round score of 602 (+26), defeating Richmond in a two-team playoff that was highlighted by a 15-foot birdie putt and a sand save landing within two feet of the pin on the first hole of a playoff. Finishing third was University of Maryland 605 (+29), followed by George Washington 609 (+33), and Boston College 613 (+37).

The individual men's champion was Boston College's Schnickenberger, whose rounds of 73 and 71 put him even through the two days, and were enough to hold onto first place.

The Dayton men look to rebound next Monday and Tuesday, March 28th & 29th, as they travel to Louisville, Kentucky for the Bellarmine Invitational.
