CHAPPELL FINISHES STRONG FOR FLYERS AT SAMFORD INVITATIONAL

Day Three Results in PDF Format SAMFORD, Ala. - Battling high winds and faster than normal greens, sophomore Rob Chappell found a way to stay consistent amid erratic conditions. Chappell shot a 77 on Tuesday to help the Dayton Flyers to a 14th place finish in the final round of the Samford Invitational. The sophomore finished tied for 29th among individual golfers and was the only Flyer to shoot below a score of 80 in all three rounds. Finishing in 55th place overall and second on the team, senior Sam Morton capped the tournament with an overall score of 237 after firing an 86 in round three. In third place on Dayton and 61st overall was freshman Kenny Wittenberg, who continued to excel as the invitational continued. He shot a 78 to finish with a three-round score of 239. Just behind Wittenberg was senior John Zaller who tallied an 84 in round three and completed the tournament with an overall 243 to finish in 67th. Rounding out the scoring for the Flyers was sophomore Nick Trubee who added an 85 in round three. He finished the tournament with a score of 248. As a team, UD shot a 325 in round three and finished with a combined total of 943. The Flyers continue their spring season on Friday, March 30 at the Eastern Kentucky Spring Intercollegiate. |
