FOURTEEN FLYERS NAMED ACADEMIC ALL-PIONEER FOOTBALL LEAGUE

Complete PFL Release in PDF Format The University of Dayton has placed the most student-athletes on the Academic All-Pioneer Football League squads for the fourth straight year, and for the 12th time in the 14-year history of the league. Fourteen Flyers were picked in a vote of the league's sports information directors. PFL champion San Diego had 11 players named. Junior safety Brandon Cramer (Toledo, OH), a First Team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American was a repeat selection. Senior nickel John Hoppe (Northbrook, IL), UD's 2006 MVP, and junior quarterback Kevin Hoyng (Coldwater, OH) were also repeat selections. Joining Cramer, Hoppe and Hoyng on the first team were senior tailback Brandon Godsey (Vandalia, OH), senior placekicker Josh Heyne (Cincinnati, OH), senior linebacker Brian Kelly (Cincinnati, OH) and junior offensive guard Chris Vermillion (Kettering, OH). Junior safety Tyler Blue (Danville, IL), senior defensive tackle Chad Burton (Germantown, OH), junior quarterback Rob Florian (Cincinnati, OH), senior fullback Matt Marshall (Cincinnati, OH), sophomore offensive guard Marcus Overman (New Bremen, OH), sophomore punter/placekicker Matt Swartz (Columbus, OH) and senior defensive end Scott Wintering (Columbus, OH) all made the second team. The Academic All-PFL team was created in 1993 to recognize student-athletes who excel on the field and in the classroom. The student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve, reached sophomore standing athletically and academically and have at least a 3.00 cumulative grade point average. Since the team's origin in 1993, over a quarter (138 of 487) of the PFL All-Academic selections have been Dayton Flyers. |
