University of Dayton sophomore safety Brandon Cramer (Toledo, OH) has been named to the 2005 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Team, it was announced today. Cramer, a 2004 graduate of Anthony Wayne High School, was named to the Second Team.

Cramer started all 10 games for the Flyers this season, and was third on the team in tackles (58). He led UD in fumbles forced (2), was second in fumbles recovered (2) and passes broken up (5), and third in interceptions (2). One of his fumble recoveries was taken back 98 yards for a touchdown against Valparaiso.

He was Second Team All-Pioneer Football League and one of four unanimous selections to the Academic All-PFL Team. He has a 4.0 GPA in Pre-Med.

To be nominated, student-athletes must be a starter or important reserve, and carry a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or higher. Team members are selected by a vote of members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) within the district.

Since 1980, UD has had 33 First Team Academic All-America selections, including at least one in each of the last 13 years. Overall, UD has had 42 football Academic All-Americans. Among schools currently playing Division I football, only Nebraska (80) and Notre Dame (44) have had more.

The Flyers were 9-1 in 2005, and ranked #2 in the Sports Network's Division I-AA Mid-Major rankings. Dayton is one of only five teams in NCAA Division I-AA who finished the year with just a single loss.
