JONES NAMED PFL, FB GAZETTE DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

University of Dayton senior safety Doug Jones (Zanesville, OH) has been named co-Defensive Player of the Week by the Pioneer Football League and the Football Gazette for his play in Saturday's season finale at San Diego.

Jones had a career-high 19 tackles (14 unassisted) in a last-second 38-35 loss to USD. Jones also caused three fumbles, had two hits in the backfield and knocked down two passes.

A 2001 graduate of West Muskingum High School, led UD in tackles for the second straight season. He had 88 hits during 2004 in ten games after being credited with 104 in 11 games as a junior. He was named a 2003 Sports Network First Team NCAA Division I-AA Mid-Major All-American.

The Flyers finished 7-3 this season, and were ranked fifth in the Football Gazette's NCAA Division I-AA Mid-Major rankings.
