ROB FLORIAN NAMED PIONEER FOOTBALL LEAGUE OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK FOR SECOND STRAIGHT GAME
Nov. 3, 2008
University of Dayton senior quarterback Rob Florian was named Pioneer Football League Offensive Player of the Week for the second straight game after leading the Flyers to a come-from-behind 30-22 win at San Diego on Saturday. UD's win gave the Flyers sole possession of first place in the PFL and ended USD's 28-game home field winning streak. Against the league's top-ranked pass efficiency defense, Florian completed a school-record tying 34 passes while passing for 353 yards and two touchdowns. With Dayton down 22-6 late in the second quarter, the 2004 graduate of Cincinnati Elder High School completed 25 of his final 30 passes for 272 yards and two touchdowns. In the last three weeks, he is 75-of-95 (78.9 percent) for 823 yards. Florian tied the mark first set by Kevin Hoyng who completed 34 passes in last year's Gridiron Classic. In his first season as a starter, Florian is 187 of 308 passing (.607) for 2,071 yards, with 12 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. The 187 completions are already the second-most by a UD quarterback in a season, and the 2,071 yards are third. The Flyer co-captain leads the PFL in completions, is second in total offense (253.8 yards a game) and is third in passing yardage. Dayton is 8-1 on the year and 5-0 in the PFL. The Flyers have won 11 straight conference games, which ties them with Albany of the Northeast Conference for the best conference winning streak in the NCAA's Football Championship Subdivision The Flyers go on the road for their next game, playing at Butler in Indianapolis on Saturday. The Bulldogs are currently tied for second in the PFL with Jacksonville with a 4-1 record. Saturday's game time is 1:00 p.m. ET. |
