VALENTINO EARNS PFL OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK HONORS
Nov. 1, 2009
University of Dayton senior quarterback Steve Valentino earned his third Pioneer Football League Offensive Player of the Week of the season for his performance in Dayton's 21-14 win over San Diego at Welcome Stadium on Saturday. It was also Valentino's second straight PFL Offensive Player of the Week Award. Valentino led Dayton to its seventh straight win in his seventh straight start by scoring the tying and winning touchdowns in the second half and rushing for more than 100 yards for the third time in the last four weeks. The 2006 Solon (Ohio) High School graduate accounted for 292 yards in total offense, and also paid a physical toll by being on the receiving end of four personal fouls (two face mask penalties, one roughing the passer and one late hit out of bounds). Valentino carried the ball 17 times for 107 yards and also had 185 yards passing (13 of 33). He also pooch-punted a 30-yard punt that was downed at the one-yard-line. On the year, he is second in the PFL in total offense per game (255.6), third in rushing (72.5) and second in TD's (9). Dayton is 7-1 overall, and tied for first with Butler and Drake in the league with a 5-0 mark. Two of the first-place PFL teams will meet this Saturday at Welcome Stadium. The Flyers will host Butler at 1 p.m. ET. |
