University of Dayton junior Nick Ruhe has been named Pioneer Football League Special Teams Player of the Week for his play at the Flyers' 45-15 win at Davidson on Saturday.

Ruhe, a graduate of Ottawa-Glandorf High School, returned three punts for an average of 33.7 yards per return in the game. The first punt return was a 64-yarder that went for a touchdown that gave the Flyers a 24-0 lead in the second quarter. Earlier in the game, he scored his first collegiate touchdown on a 20-yard pass from Kevin Hoyng.

For the season, Ruhe is Dayton's leading punt returner. He has had 34 of the Flyer's 39 punt returns, and his 12.0 yards-per-return-average is second in the PFL, and 20th in NCAA Division I-AA football. Ruhe has also caught four passes for 53 yards this season.

UD is 8-1 on the season and ranked second in the Sports Network's and Football Gazette's I-AA Mid-Major rankings, behind Pioneer Football League rival San Diego. The Flyers finish the 2005 season at Butler on Saturday.
