FLORIAN NAMED PFL OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

University of Dayton senior quarterback Rob Florian was named Pioneer Football League Offensive Player of the Week after leading the Flyers to a 43-7 win over Valparaiso at Welcome Stadium on Saturday. Florian, a 2004 graduate of Cincinnati Elder High School, was 21 of 28 for 270 yards with three passing TD's and one rushing TD in three quarters of action to lead Dayton in the win. While Florian was under center, UD was five-for five in red-zone scoring and six-for-eight on third-down conversions. In the last two weeks, Florian is 41 of 52 (.788) for 470 yards. In his first season as a starter, the Flyer co-captain is 153 of 265 passing (.577) for 1,718 yards, with 10 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. He is second in the PFL in completions and third in passing yardage. Dayton is 7-1 on the year and 4-0 in the PFL. UD is tied for first place in the league with Butler. The Flyers have won 10 straight conference games, which ties them with Albany of the Northeast Conference for the best conference winning streak in the NCAA's Football Championship subdivision The Flyers go on the road for their next game, playing at San Diego on Saturday. UD and USD shared the PFL title last year. San Diego is a half-game behind Dayton and Butler in third place in the PFL with a 4-1 record, and is 6-1 overall in 2008. |
