FLYER FOOTBALL TO CONDUCT LIFT-A-THON TO BENEFIT NATIONAL BREAST CANCER FOUNDATION
March 4, 2009
The University of Dayton football team is turning an off-season conditioning workout into an event to benefit a good cause, this Friday, March 6. The Flyers are conducting a lift-a-thon benefitting the National Breast Cancer Foundation. It will be held during the team's weightlifting session that afternoon. Each player will solicit donations based on the number of bench-press repetitions they repeat of a specified weight. The weight is determined by what position the player plays (i.e., a kicker would not expected to bench the same weight as a lineman). The weights that will be bench-pressed are 185 pounds, 225 pounds and 315 pounds. Flat donations will also be accepted up to March 20. "Our players are excited about this," head coach Rick Chamberlin. "We even had one of them ask if it was okay to sponsor himself because his mother was a breast cancer survivor. I'd venture to say that everyone in our program knows someone who has been touched by this disease, and we're glad to have a chance to help in the fight against it." For more information, please contact the Flyer football office at (937) 229-4423. Donations can be mailed to: Flyer Football Lift-a-thon, University of Dayton, Dayton OH 45469-1236. Checks should be made payable to the National Breast Cancer Foundation. UD is coming to the close of its winter conditioning program as it prepares for spring practice, which begins on March 17. |
