DAYTON ANNOUNCES 2006 FOOTBALL SCHEDULE
Complete Pioneer Football League Schedule
Feb. 15, 2006 The 2006 University of Dayton football schedule is highlighted by seven games against fellow Pioneer Football League opponents, including a showdown at San Diego to round out the season. The Toreros, who captured the 2005 PFL Championship, handed the 2005 Dayton squad its only defeat of the season. UD went on to finish 9-1 with a #2 ranking in the NCAA Division 1-AA Mid-Major rankings. Dayton kicks off its ten-game season with three non-league opponents, including its opener at home against Robert Morris September 2 at 1:00 PM. The Flyers did not face Robert Morris in 2005, but won 29-12 on the road in 2004. The Flyers are on the road in week two to take on Division-III power Wittenberg on September 9 before returning home to face former PFL opponent Austin Peay (who is rejoining the OVC) on September 23 at Welcome Stadium. The Flyers open PFL play September 30. This year's Pioneer League regular season contests will be even more vital that in 2005 because of a change to the league's format. The PFL combined the North and South divisions, thus eliminating the PFL championship game between the winners of each division (which the Flyers won in 2001 and 2002). The team with the best regular season record will be crowned league champion. Dayton's first league game is on the road against Butler before the Flyers return home to host Morehead State. UD rounds out the season with Jacksonville and Davidson on the road, and Drake and Valparaiso at home before the season-ending match-up with San Diego. In 2005, Dayton extended its streak of consecutive seasons with a winning record to 29 years, the longest such streak in Division I-AA. The Flyers have not been shutout in 331 games, which is the longest active streak in NCAA football. |
