Groetsema won a starting corner position in pre-season camp last year, and came through with a solid season. He had 39 tackles (25 solo), with five passes batted down and an interception. He also picked up a fumble and ran it back 32 yards for a touchdown in his first career start against St. Joseph's. He was on the 2003 Pioneer Football League Academic Honor Roll. As a sophomore, he lettered after seeing action in eight games as a backup DB and special teams performer. He returned one punt for 16 yards in 2002. PERSONAL Son of Bill and Cheryl Groetsema...Born on June 2, 1983...Majoring in Nutrition & Fitness...He was team captain and first team all-conference in football for Lyons Township High. He was also first team all-conference, MVP and captain of the swimming and water polo teams. Groetsema hopes to be a strength and conditioning coach at the collegiate level after graduation. His brother Steve plays football at Illinois Wesleyan. |
