AT DAYTON:
Offensive captain Rob Florian returned for his fifth year and stepped up to replace record-setting QB Kevin Hoyng. He played in ten games throughout the 2008 season, starting in two. In addition to scoring four touchdowns of his own, Florian led the team in passing, completing 207 of 354 passes (.585) for 2,345 yards and 14 touchdowns. These numbers land him second in Flyer Football history (behind Kevin Hoyng)for passing yards in a single-season, as well as in the categories of passing attempts and passing completions. Florian is also found on the school records in the category of passing yards in a single game, where his 353 yards against San Diego ranked number five. In this same game, he tallied a career-high 34 pass completions, which tied him for first in school history with none other than Kevin Hoyng. Florian was number two for the squad this season in rushing, with a net total of 247 yards. He is also a two-time recepient of the PFL's 2008 Offensive Player of the Week honors.

Previously, Florian had only one start in his career, but what a start it was. In 2006, without ever throwing a collegiate pass, Florian filled in for the injured Hoyng at Jacksonville and threw for 411 yards, just three yards short of the school single-game record. In 2007, Florian completed 26 of 42 passes (.619) for 261 yards and two TD's. He came off the bench and completed his only pass for a touchdown in the road win over playoff-bound Fordham . As a sophomore playing behind Hoyng and Robert Dence in 2005, he played in five games where he carried the ball five times for 15 yards. He was a member of the 2005 PFL Academic Honor Roll.
