A 2004 team captain, Chris Dearth was a First Team All-PFL performer in 2003. He had 51 tackles (22 solo), 5.5 tackles in the backfield, four quarterback hurries, three sacks, a pass batted down, a fumble recovered and a fumble forced in his first season as a starter. A three-year letterwinner, he has been in the Dayton defensive tackle rotation since his freshman season. In 2002, he played in all 12 games (with one start due to injury), and led UD with five QB hurries. Dearth also had 31 tackles, seven tackles in the backfield, 3.5 sacks, four passes batted down and a fumble forced. As a freshman, he had four tackles, including one in the backfield. He was also First Team CoSIDA Academic All-District, and his name appeared on the national ballot for Academic All-America. Dearth is a two-time member of the PFL Academic Honor Roll. His brother, Eric was a Flyer football captain last season. They are just the third set of brothers (Al, John and Lou Mahrt, and Mark and Brad Thobe were the others) to serve as UD captains.

He was also first team all-district. He finished in the top 10 of his class, and had perfect attendance for two years.
