On the field, he started every game while adding 60 tackles to his resume. He broke up seven passes and made two interceptions. Also, he succeeds off the field. Cramer was named Academic All-American of the Year. He also was named by the Football Championship Subdivision Athletics Directors Association to the Academic All-Star Team. He was a finalist for the Draddy Trophy and is a three-time ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American. Last season, he was third on the team in tackles (52) and co-led in interceptions (3). He was named I-AA's national player of the week for the Austin Peay game (two interceptions, including one that was returned for an 84-yard TD, a fumble recovery, and nine tackles). A starter in all 10 games in 2005, Cramer had 58 tackles (27 solo), five passes broken up, and two interceptions. He also had a 98-yard TD off a fumble return. He was named Football Gazette Second Team I-AA Mid-Major All-America, Second Team All-PFL, ESPN the Magazine Second Team Academic All-America and First Team Academic All-PFL. Cramer came from off the depth chart (he even began camp with a double number) to becoming a prime player in a very short time as a freshman. Although never listed as a starter, he played as much if not more than most starters as a rookie free safety, and demonstrated a nose for the ball with 38 tackles, three passes broken up and two interceptions. He was named the winner of the ROTC Cannonball Award (which goes to the team's top newcomer). He is a three-time member of the PFL Academic Honor Roll.
