AT DAYTON:
Bergfeld lettered in 2007 backing up All-America tight end Matt Champa. He redshirted the 2005 season, and did not see game action in 2006. He caught five balls for 66 yards in the 2008 spring game. Bergfeld is a four-time member of the PFL Academic Honor Roll.
In the 2008 season, Bergfeld played in ten games, finishing fourth for the Flyers in receiving, with 21 passes for 230 yards, and tied for second in touchdown receptions with three. He was one of five PFL players (and the only Dayton nominee) named a semifinialist of the 2008 NFF National Scholar-Athlete Award. In addition, Bergfeld was among 164 finalists for the Draddy Trophy. He was named to ESPN The Magazine 1st Team Academic All-America and 1st Team Academic All-District.
PERSONAL:
Bergfeld was Special Mention All-Ohio, first team all-district and all-conference for Delphos St. John's. He was a three-year starter, and caught a school Division-V record 96 passes in his career. He also played basketball. In the classroom, he graduated first in his class. He is majoring in Philosophy and Religion at UD.
