SCOTT NAMED TO A-10 THIRD TEAM, ROBERTS ALL-ROOKIE
March 8, 2005 CINCINNATI, OH - The University of Dayton men's basketball team placed two members on the Atlantic 10's All-Conference Teams as forward Monty Scott was named to the All-Atlantic 10 Third Team and freshman guard Brian Roberts earned a place on the All-Rookie Team. The awards were announced Tuesday at the conference's pre-tournament awards banquet. Scott is UD's only double-digit scorer this season, averaging 11.5 points per game. He's led the Flyers in scoring ten times this season and in rebounding nine. Scott is fourth in the A-10 in three-point percentage, connecting at a .389 clip (51-of-131). The second-year player scored a career-high 25 points against Duquesne, and recording his first career double-double (10 points and career-high 12 rebounds) in UD's win over Cornell. He was named Atlantic 10 Player of the Week for January 16-22 after tying his career-high with 25 points against La Salle. The only frontcourt player to start every game this season for UD, he leads the Flyers in scoring (11.5), rebounding (4.7) and minutes (25.0). Roberts earns a spot on the all-rookie team after scoring in double-figures off the bench in six of the last 10 games. The freshman guard is the Flyers' top scorer off the bench (and second overall), averaging 9.3 points a game. He has had 13 double-figure games, including 10 in the last 17 games. At Vanderbilt, Roberts scored a team-high 13 points and career-high eight rebounds. His career-high of 17 points came against Duquesne. He was A-10 Rookie of the Week for December 12-18 after scoring 14 points in UD's win over Saint Louis. The Flyers (17-10) take on St. Bonaventure (2-25) on Wednesday in the Opening Round of the Atlantic 10 Men's Basketball Championship at U.S. Bank Arena in Cincinnati. Tip-off is estimated at 8:30 p.m., with the winner taking on Temple in the quarterfinals in an 8:30 p.m. approximate tip on Thursday. Saint Joseph's senior Pat Carroll and La Salle junior Steven Smith were selected Atlantic 10 men's basketball Players of the Year in voting conducted among the Conference's head coaches. The Atlantic 10 coaches also voted Bryant Dunston of Fordham as Rookie of the Year, Saint Joseph's Dwayne Jones as Defensive Player of the Year, Kieron Achara of Duquesne as the Chris Daniels Award winner as the league's most improved player, J.R. Pinnock of George Washington as Sixth Man of the Year, and Saint Joseph's head coach Phil Martelli as Coach of the Year. Brian Thornton of Xavier was selected as the Student-Athlete of the Year in voting among the league's sports information directors.
