MICKEY PERRY TRANSFERS TO DAYTON FROM WISCONSIN
Jan. 8, 2007 University of Dayton men's basketball coach Brian Gregory has announced that Phillip "Mickey" Perry has transferred to the Flyers from the University of Wisconsin. Perry, a 6-2 guard who graduated from Proviso East High School in 2005, has enrolled at UD and can begin practicing with the team immediately. He will become eligible to play at UD after the fall 2007 semester and will have two-and-a-half seasons of basketball eligibility remaining. "We're very excited that Mickey is joining the Flyers," UD head coach Brian Gregory said. "In addition to his very good basketball skills, he has competed at the highest levels of basketball every step of the way. He played for a great high school program, a tremendous AAU program, and he comes to us from one of the most successful college basketball teams in the country. I think he is a perfect fit for us." After averaging 20.0 points, 7.1 assists and 5.0 rebounds a game as a senior at Proviso East, Perry redshirted the 2005-06 season at Wisconsin. In seven games this season for the fourth-ranked Badgers, he averaged three minutes, 1.0 points and 0.5 rebounds a game behind a deep backcourt that includes all-conference performer Kammron Taylor. Perry was Associated Press Third Team All-Illinois and a member of the Chicago team that played in the 2005 Old Spice Red Zone All-Star Shootout. Proviso East High's basketball products include NBA players Michael Finley, Dee Brown, Shannon Brown and Steven Hunter. Perry also played his AAU basketball for Larry Butler's Illinois Warriors, where his teammates included Julian Wright of Kansas, Jon Scheyer of Duke and Justin Dentmon of Washington. He joins what Scout.com had already regarded the top recruiting class in the Atlantic 10. The Flyer fall signees are 6-7 forward Chris Wright of Trotwood-Madison (Trotwood, OH) High School, 6-9 forward/center Devin Searcy of Romulus (MI) High School, and 6-1 guard Stephen Thomas of Indianapolis Cathedral High School. Dayton is currently one of three teams tied for the best record in the Atlantic 10 at 11-4. UD is back in action on Saturday, January 13, when La Salle visits the University of Dayton Arena. Game time is 7:00 p.m. EST. |
