Dayton falls for the second time in its last eight Atlantic 10 Tournament games. Temple leads the all-time series, 13-8. The Flyers won the only other meeting against the Owls in the A-10 tournament, taking their first Atlantic 10 Championship by beating the Owls in the 2003 Final 79-72, at UD Arena. Flyers' record in the Atlantic 10 Championship: 12-9 and 4-4 in the quarterfinals. Temple moves to 21-2 in A-10 Quarterfinal games, and 41-16 all-time in the A-10 tourney. Dayton falls to 4-3 as the West No. 3 seed, and 2-3 versus East No. 2 seeds. Dayton is now 3-9 all-time at US Bank Arena. Brian Gregory's A-10 Tournament record drops to 3-2. Dayton's 16-point first half was the fifth-lowest scoring half in UD's modern history (since 1947). The Flyers out-scored Temple 35-33 in the second half. Freshman Brian Roberts moves into 12th on UD's list of most points in a season by a freshman with 267, while Norman Plummer sits right behind with 264. Mark Jones sits 49th on UD's all-time scoring list with 892 points. Temple's last two games with 10 or more turnovers are against Dayton. The Owls finished with 12 and had 11 in the regular season meeting on February 9. The Flyers' 51 points was a season-low, and UD's four three-pointers made ties its season low. UNIVERSITY OF DAYTON RECAPS First Half The Flyers managed to score just 16 points in the half, the fewest points in a half by Dayton this year. The previous low was 22 in the first halves of back-to-back games against UMass on March 1 and at Xavier on March 5. The Flyers went more than 11 minutes without scoring (16:45 to 5:02), with Temple extending a 6-5 lead to 21-5 during the stretch. Norman Plummer stopped the drought with a baseline jumper. Trailing 28-8 at 2:47, the Flyers ended the half on an 8-0 run to cut the deficit to 28-16. Four different Dayton players scored during the stretch. First half leaders: Norman Plummer scored 10 points. Monty Scott and Mark Jones each had 3 rebounds. Jones had 2 assists. Second Half Trailing 36-22 at 15:59, Dayton went on a 12-4 run to cut the lead to 40-34 at 11:29. Brian Roberts and Norman Plummer each scored 3 points. Trailing 44-34 at 10:13, Dayton went on a 6-0 run to cut the lead 44-40 at 5:27. Three players scored for the Flyers. |
