Dayton is now 3-1 vs Saint Joseph's in the A-10 Tourney. The Flyers fell in the Opening Round of the A-10 tourney for the first time since 1997, when UD lost 81-75 to St. Bonaventure. With a 14-17 final record in 2005-2006, the Flyers' streak of six-straight winning seasons comes to an end. UD last finished below .500 in the 1998-1999 season, which was followed by five consecutive 20-win seasons. Dayton is still averaging 21 wins per year since the start of the 1999-2000 season. The 6-0 point guard Warren Williams blocked a shot for the second-straight game, reaching five for his career. Williams finishes his Flyers' career with 331 assists, 12th all-time at UD. Williams went two-for-three from three-point range, bringing his career three-point percentage to .378, 10th all-time at UD. Williams is also tied for 10th all-time at UD in games played with 122. Brian Roberts finishes the season with 66 three-pointers made, the 11th highest single-season total in UD history. Roberts is now shooting .417 from three-pointer range in his career, third on the UD all-time list. Brian Roberts was held to two field goals or less for the fifth time all season. Saint Joseph's (16-12) defeated Dayton (14-17), 67-55. The Hawks lost to the Flyers in their only other meeting this season, 77-69, on February 1 at UD Arena. Trailing 5-4 at 15:54, Saint Joseph's went on an 8-0 run to take a 12-5 lead at 13:47. Saint Joseph's took its largest lead of the first half, 31-17, on a Dave Mallon three-pointer at 5:14. However, Dayton finished the half with a 7-0 run to trim the deficit to 31-24. After Dayton closed to within two points, 48-46 with 7:27 remaining, Saint Joseph's went on a 9-0 run to take a 57-46 lead at 3:23. Dayton went from 12:47 until 1:20 without scoring a field goal. The Flyers hit 10 free throws during that stretch. Dayton shot just 32.1 percent from the field, its third-worst shooting game of the season. Abdulai Jalloh converted 13 of his 14 free throws (.929), tying him for the ninth-best single-game performance in A-10 Tournament history with four others. Jalloh entered the game as the A-10s third-best free throw shooter for the season at 82.1 percent. After his performance today he is now shooting 83 percent (151-for-182) for the season. |
