A heady player with a classic Hoosier-guard game, Stephen Thomas is a quick and decisive point guard who can also play at the two spot.
Thomas showcases good ball skills and is able to set up teammates as well as work for his own shot. As an improving defensive player and a fierce competitor, Thomas made headlines in high school as a scorer and is a good outside shooter and slasher.
2007-08
In 23 games Thomas averaged 0.7 points and 0.5 rebounds. He made his UD debut against East Tennessee State and recorded his first collegiate field goal at George Mason. Thomas converted two free throws and added a defensive rebound versus SMU and netted his first career three-pointer at Holy Cross. Thomas hauled in two rebounds in seven minutes of action against High Point and then came off the bench to add five points and his first career assist in a win over Coppin State. He chipped in with three points, a steal and an assist in 12 minutes at No. 23 Xavier.
High School
Thomas came to UD after a standout career at Indianapolis Cathedral High School. Thomas was a two-time Indianapolis Player of the Year, leading Cathedral High to a 38-10 record in his final two seasons. In 2006-07, the Indianapolis Star named Thomas one of its two annual Players of the Year. Thomas was the Indianapolis Player of the Year, and national player of the year Greg Oden was named Marion County Player of the Year. He averaged 18.6 points and 4.0 rebounds a game as a senior, leading his team to a 21-4 record and the Hall of Fame Tournament title and a second straight Indianapolis City Tournament Championship even though he missed a couple of weeks midway through the season with a wrist injury that required surgery. As a junior, Thomas led a young Cathedral team to a strong finish and a 17-6 record, with Thomas averaging 15.5 points, 5.0 assists and 3.1 rebounds.
