Jeffrey Robert Penno became eligible last season after transferring from Akron. He saw action in four games and scored his only basket of the season in the win over St. Bonaventure at the A-10 tournament. One of the games he played in was against his former teammates from Akron.

Penno redshirted his freshman season for the Zips after suffering a broken wrist during the preseason and then played in 14 games in 2002-03. He averaged 2.0 points, 0.4 rebounds and 0.6 assists while shooting .526 (10-19) from the field and .615 (8-13) from three. He did not attempt a free throw.

Penno graduated from Alter High School in 2001 where he was Third Team All-Southwest Ohio and First Team All-GCL. Named to the Dayton Daily News All-Area Second Team, he averaged 10.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.0 steals for the Knights as a senior. He lettered twice in basketball and once in football in high school. He was named MVP of the Orange-White All-Star Game at the 2000 Five Star Camp. He was a member of Alter's 2001 state championship team.

Penno has two brothers -- Doug (20) and Joe (11) -- and two sisters -- Tricia (27) and Cathy (25). Doug is a junior on Miami University's basketball team.
