BASEBALL'S ANNUAL GOLF OUTING AND LUNCHEON BRINGS ALUMNI TOGETHER
Oct. 15, 2008 DAYTON, Ohio - The Dayton Flyer baseball team held its annual parents/family/alumni weekend and golf outing on Oct. 10-11 as they welcomed back former players and honoring the life of Billy Brewer, an `88 alumnus at the University of Dayton. The golf outing, which had more than 150 participants and over 30 hole sponsors, was highlighted by the attendance of former Flyers Jerry Blevins, Craig Stammen and Ryan Fleming. Blevins is currently pitching for the Oakland Athletics, while Stammen pitches for the Washington Nationals AAA affiliate Columbus Clippers. Fleming played for the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Red Barons, a AAA affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies until 2006. Friday's dinner was marked by the remembrance of Billy Brewer, an `88 alum of the University of Dayton who died tragically of a heart attack last November. In Brewer's honor, 20-plus of his former teammates joined together to celebrate Brewer, his wife Peggy and three daughters as well as his mother and father. "There was a lot of camaraderie for the University of Dayton, the game of baseball and for Billy Brewer and his family," said Flyer head coach Tony Vittorio, "The University of Dayton baseball team is very fortunate and humbled to be a part of the events that took place last weekend." Dayton will play in its annual Red Baron scrimmage this Sunday at Time Warner Cable Stadium at approximately 12:30 p.m. As always, admission to Time Warner Cable Stadium is free of charge and open to the public. |
