Kevin Miller hit a career-best .362 this season for UD

PHILADELPHIA - Recent University of Dayton tennis player Allysa Detroy and baseball player Kevin Miller were recently recognized as the University of Dayton's Scholar-Athletes of the Year by the Atlantic 10 Conference. For players to be eligible to be nominated by their institution they must be a starter or important reserve and have a cumulative 3.0 GPA or better for his/her entire academic career.

Detroy boasted a 3.96 grade point average while majoring in Spanish and Education. She helped coach a tennis program for children through a local YMCA and volunteered for Special Olympics, Habitat for Humanity and Christmas on Campus. Miller maintained a 3.56 grade point average while majoring in Marketing and is in pursuit of his MBA. He volunteered with Christmas on Campus and visited patients at Dayton's Children's Hospital.

Detroy, a native of Evansville, Ind., was a four-year member of the women's tennis team and the female winner of the 2007-2008 Atlantic 10 Sporting Award. She participated in singles and doubles events every season of her college career. She played in the top singles her sophomore and senior year, and as part of the top doubles tandem her sophomore, junior, and senior year. Detroy was a two-time Academic All-Conference selection and the 2007 Atlantic 10 Student-Athlete of the Year in women's tennis. In addition, she was named the 2008 Dayton Presidential Scholar-Athlete and NCAA Woman of the Year. For her athletic achievements, Detroy was honored with a few distinguished awards. She won the UD Coach's Award in 2006 and was named Dayton's Most Valuable Player in 2007 and 2008. She was also an A-10 Player of the Week in February 2007. This season, Detroy won five matches at No. 1 singles while posting a mark of 9-14 this season at No. 1 doubles. She amassed 42 singles wins overall during her career.

Miller, a native of Indianapolis, IN, started 52 games this season for the Flyers and was an ESPN The Magazine Second Team Academic All-District selection. He was also named to the Atlantic 10 Academic All-Conference team. In his final season with the Flyers, he was awarded UD's White-Allen Most Valuable Player award. Miller had a career best .362 batting average in his final year, which led the team. He also led the team with a .450 on base percentage, was fifth with 33 runs scored and had 41 RBI from the leadoff spot in the order. Miller appeared in 135 games over his career for the Flyers in centerfield and led Dayton to three 30-win seasons in five years on campus.
