DAYTON - The University of Dayton baseball team announced its year-end award winners Thursday as voted on by the players and coaches following the regular season. Sophomore Bobby Getty was named Most Valuable Player. Junior Luke Trubee garnered Most Valuable Pitcher honors. Junior William Benoit was named the Most Improved Player. Senior Todd Presar rounded out the awards as he was named Best Practice Player.

Getty started all 59 games at centerfield for the Flyers after transferring from Olney Central Junior College. The two-time A-10 Player of the Week was tied for the team lead with 26 multi-hit games while collecting 12 multi-RBI games, which was second best on the squad. Getty hit .333 with 13 doubles, three triples and six home runs while scoring 50 runs and driving 48 on the season. He was hit by pitch 16 times which was the most in the A-10 and reached base safely in 55 of 59 games played. Getty made use of his appearances on base as he was second on the team with 14 stolen bases. He also was a force defensively with six outfield assists.

Trubee led the A-10 with a school record 12 wins this season. The Second Team All A-10 pick also became the all-time winningest pitcher in UD history with 21 victories in just three seasons. Trubee tied school records with 82 strikeouts in 108.1 innings pitched. He threw three shutouts and nine complete games while securing a 2.91 ERA and a 5.13 strikeout-to-walk ratio. Trubee surrendered two earned runs or less in 12 of his 18 starts and was garnered A-10 Pitcher of the Week honors three times. He was also named to the National College Baseball Foundation National Honor Roll three times.

Benoit was one of the most consistent performers for UD throughout the season. After hitting just .219 with two doubles and eight RBI during his first two seasons as a Flyer, Benoit hit .335 with eight doubles, five home runs, 40 runs scored and 32 RBI during his junior campaign. He hit safely in each of the first nine games of the season and 45 of 59 games overall while also fashioning a .414 on base percentage and was toughest Flyer regular to strikeout this season. Benoit was named the Atlantic 10 Player of the Week to open the season on Feb. 14.

Presar was the Flyers' most explosive option off the bench as he scored 11 runs in 36 games played while appearing primarily as a pinch runner. He had a triple, three RBI and two runs scored while helping UD take two of three games against #19 Notre Dame in Mid-February. He also scored six runs against A-10 opponents while also not committing an error as a reserve outfielder.

Dayton won a school record 36 games in 2005 in its third 30-win season over the past five years. The Flyers placed second in the A-10 West Division with a school record 16 conference victories. UD also played its first season in recently completed Time Warner Cable Stadium and had plenty of success with an 18-4 record at its new home.
