2006 UNIVERSITY OF DAYTON SPRING SPORT HIGHLIGHTS

The UD spring season will continue with baseball competing in the A-10 championships, track star Kelly Pohlman competing in the NCAA, and rowing at the IRA Lightweight Nationals.

Baseball

♦ Currently 32-22, and 18-9 in the Atlantic 10. UD finished third in the regular season in the A-10.

  • This is UD's fourth 30-win season in school history (all since 2001). The school record for wins prior to 2001 was 25 (currently 36, set last year).
  • Senior righthander Luke Trubee became the only Dayton pitcher to strike out 200 hitters in his career, and remains on the Watch List for the 2006 Roger Clemens Award, which goes to the nation's top collegiate pitcher.

    Men's Golf

  • Placed eighth at 2006 Atlantic 10 championship.
  • Freshman Rob Chappell was named A-10 Most Outstanding Rookie after finishing 15th at the conference championship with an even par three-round total of 216.
  • Former Flyer golf captain Drew Tyrer was named head coach on April 21.

    Women's Golf

  • Placed eighth at the Colonial Athletic Association championship.
  • Team returns top six golfers from 2006.

    Rowing

  • Placed third at the Atlantic 10 regatta, just three points out of second.
  • UD's Lightweight 8 boat is currently ranked seventh nationally in the US Rowing Coaches Poll, and repeated as the Lightweight 8 champions at the prestigious Dad Vail Regatta.
  • Junior Tiffany Latta, the coxswain of the Lightweight 8, was named Academic All-Atlantic 10.
  • The Flyers will compete at the Intercollegiate Rowing Association Lightweight national championships June 1.

    Softball

  • Finished 18-30 overall, and 8-12 in the Atlantic 10.
  • Freshman outfielder Mollie Schrank was named Second Team All-Atlantic 10 and to the A-10 All-Rookie Team.
  • Senior pitcher Melissa Myher ended her career second in strikeouts and wins at UD.

    Men's Tennis

  • Placed fourth in the Atlantic 10 championship, after entering the tournament seeded seventh.
  • Junior Tom Murphy and sophomore James O'Connell were named All-Atlantic 10.
  • Team was 8-5 in the spring season.

    Women's Tennis

  • Placed tenth in the Atlantic 10 championship.
  • Team was 12-13 in 2005-06, under first-year coach Erica Echko, despite having no seniors and one only junior in the lineup.

    Track & Field

  • Placed a best-ever fourth at the Atlantic 10 outdoor championship, after being picked seventh in the pre-season coaches poll.
  • Senior Kelly Pohlman won her third straight conference title in the shot put, and has qualified for the NCAA Regional meet. Pohlman was also named Academic All-Atlantic 10 for the third straight year.
  • Freshman Amy Kremer was named the A-10 Rookie of the Year after winning the high jump and heptathlon events.
  • UD set seven school records in 2005-06, even though first-year coach Kandice Erwin's team had just three seniors and 14 freshmen on its 29-woman roster.
