Seventh-place Dayton and eighth-place Richmond will meet in three-game Atlantic 10 Conference series this weekend that could determine both teams' postseason fate. The Flyers are scheduled to take on the Spiders Friday (3 p.m. ET), Saturday (1 p.m. ET and Sunday (Noon ET) at Time Warner Cable Stadium that can be followed with FREE live audio and Gametracker at www.DaytonFlyers.com. UD and UR are separated by just a half game in the race to make the six-team field at the 2008 A-10 Baseball Championships. The Flyers enter the weekend 1.5 games back of sixth place Rhode Island and two games shy of St. Bonaventure, which is in fifth place. Following the series with Richmond, Dayton will have three conference series remaining beginning next weekend at Massachusetts. UD will also make a trip to Temple before closing out the season by playing host to a three-game set against Duquesne. The Flyers have won eight of their last nine games and six straight entering the weekend behind an offense that is averaging 10.5 runs per game. UD has hit .391 as a team while slugging at a .558 clip on the strength of 16 doubles and six home runs. The duo of Kevin Miller and Jake Hoover have each hit .500 during the stretch while Jacob Spaeth following closely with a .476 batting average over the last six games. UD pitching has been equally as strong with a 3.00 team ERA while holding the opposition to a .259 batting average and recording 43 strikeouts while giving up only 17 walks. Dayton's play this season has risen with the temperatures in the Miami Valley. UD is a perfect 6-0 this season when playing in temperatures of 65 degrees or warmer. In contrast, the Flyers posted a record of only 4-8 when playing in temperatures that were cooler that 45 degrees. Dayton has also been forced to play in a doubleheader each of the past four Saturday afternoons during conference play and has posted a 5-4 record including sweeps of Saint Joseph's and George Washington over the past two weekends. |
