FLYERS ADVANCE TO DAY THREE OF 2005 A-10 BASEBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS
May 26, 2005
DAYTON - A middle-inning offensive surge led Dayton to a 13-9 win over Duquesne in an elimination game Thursday evening at the 2005 Atlantic 10 Baseball Championships at Fifth Third Field. UD was forced to play in the game after a 7-4 loss to Rhode Island earlier in the day. The win moves the Flyers into the third day of the A-10 Tournament with a program-best 36-22 record against second-seeded George Washington who was upset by Richmond 10-3 in Thursday's other game. UD will face GW in a game scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m. Friday at Fifth Third Field. If Dayton wins, they would then remain on the field to play its third-consecutive elimination game at 7 p.m. Junior Bryan Chandler collected three RBI for the second time on the day as he finished 1-for-5 with a run scored in a 14-hit Flyer attack. Four UD players had multi-hit evenings including William Benoit who was 3-for-5 with a walk two runs scored and two RBI. Bobby Getty was 2-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBI while Aaron Hepner was also 2-for-5 with a run scored. Michael Massa singled twice and scored twice for Dayton. After 4.1 innings from starter Kaleb Thompson, sophomore Kyle Lindsay came out of the bullpen to earn his fifth win of the season. Thompson allowed three earned runs on six hits while striking out three before giving way to Lindsay who scattered eight hits over 4.2 innings pitched while surrendering two runs and fanning four Duquesne batters.
