BRONX, NY - Dayton saw its 2006 season come to an end at the hands of George Washington on Thursday with a 6-1 loss to the Colonials in an elimination game at the Atlantic 10 Baseball Championships. The loss was the second of the day for the Flyers who were forced into the rematch with the Colonials following a 4-3 loss to St. Bonaventure earlier in the day.

Despite the loss, Dayton (33-24) finished with its fourth 30-win season since 2001 under the direction of seventh-year Head Coach Tony Vittorio. The Flyers also advanced to the Atlantic 10 Championships for the second consecutive season and won their first round game for the second time in four appearances overall.

Michael Massa and Bryan Chandler had two hits a piece for UD, but Dayton was out hit 11-5 on the night including two Colonial home runs.

Massa was 2-for-4 while swiping his 22nd stolen base of the season, which is one shy of the UD single-season record.

Chandler went 2-for-4 with a pair of singles as Dayton was held without an extra base hit for the second time in three A-10 Championship games.

Bobby Getty had the lone RBI of the game for the Flyers with a single to plate Frank Tedesco in the third inning.

Four Dayton pitchers took to the mound in the nightcap. Junior Chris Rubio got the start and allowed four runs on seven hits. He struck out three batters over 5.0 innings pitched before giving way to Kyle Lindsay.

Lindsay threw two innings surrendering one earned run on three hits while striking out four. He combined to strikeout seven batters in 3.1 innings pitched on the day.

Freshman Sean Finn recorded two outs in the bottom of eighth including one strikeout before Craig Rohren moved over from first base to close out the game for UD.
