BRONX, NY - A late inning rally from Dayton came up just short as the Flyers lost to St. Boanventure on the second day of the 2006 Atlantic 10 Baseball Championships on Thursday. After the loss, UD will now face GW in an elimination game Tonight at 7 p.m. ET that can be followed live on www.DaytonFlyers.com.

The Flyers (33-23) fell behind 4-0 after two innings, but battled back with two runs in the sixth and one in the eighth to make it a one-run game. However after Dayton got the leadoff runner on in the ninth, GW recorded three straight outs including throwing out a runner trying to steal second base to end the threat.

A-10 First Team selection Michael Massa led the Flyer offense and finished 1-for-4 with a triple and two runs scored.

Senior William Benoit smacked a two-out double down the right field line in the sixth inning to drive in two runs.

Junior Bobby Getty and senior A-10 Second Team pick Bryan Chandler each singled once as Dayton was out hit 9-4 by Bona.

After starter Quinn Haselhorst gave up four runs on five hits over the first two innings, the UD bullpen of Vale Ort and Kyle Lindsay combined to shut down the Bonnies for the final six innings.

Ort struck out five batters and surrendered just one walk and three hits over 4.2 innings pitched. The junior lefty gave way to a righthander Lindsay to finished the game with 1.1 scoreless innings pitched that included three strikeouts.

The Bonnies used a two-out RBI single by Joe Rizzo to plate their first run in the first inning. They added to their lead with three runs on three hits including a RBI single from Kieran Malone and a two-RBI double by Randy Moley to build a 4-0 advantage.

With the Flyer bullpen shutting down the Bonnie bats, Dayton finally got on the board in the sixth with a rally that started when Massa reached on a throwing error by the SBU shortstop. The UD leadoff batter moved up to second on a passed ball and Getty walked to put Flyers on first and second with no outs. After a strikeout and a groundout that moved both runners into scoring position, Benoit ripped a line drive down the right field line for a double to cut the Bona advantage to 4-2.

Massa got things going again for the Flyers in the eighth with a leadoff triple to left centerfield. Getty followed with a walk and moved up to second on a wild pitch. After an RBI groundout from Chandler plated Massa, the Bonnies made their third pitching change of the inning and got a fly out to strand the tying run at third base with Dayton trailing 4-3.

Rohren led off the ninth for Dayton with a hard ground ball that found its way through the legs of the third baseman. The Flyer first baseman then took off for second base on a run-and-hit, but a high pitch prevented a bunt from being laid down and Rohren was thrown out at second base. A fly out and a ground out followed to send UD into an elimination game after a 4-3 loss.
