Box Score

DAYTON, Ohio - Visiting Saint Louis kept the Dayton offense quiet for most of the game as the Billikens won game two of an Atlantic 10 doubleheader on Friday, 5-1. After winning the first game 6-5 in 10 innings, the Flyers (31-22, 17-9 A-10) will play for either third or fourth seed in next week's A-10 Championships.

UD was out hit 9-7 in the second game despite three hits each from Galen Schumm and William Benoit. Schumm doubled twice while scoring a run. Benoit ripped an RBI double down the third base line in the eighth inning to drive in the only Flyer run of the game.

Junior Chris Rubio fell to 5-8 on the year despite allowing just two earned runs on six hits while striking out four batters over 7.2 innings pitched.

Classmate Cale Ort gave up two runs on three hits while striking out one over 1.1 innings pitched to finish the game on the mound for Dayton. He has appeared in 26 games this season which is the most by any pitcher in UD history.

SLU began with an unearned run the first inning. Then both pitchers settled in until the Billikens added another run in the sixth on a single to left centerfield for a 2-0 advantage.

After a solo home run in the seventh inning made it a 3-0 Saint Louis lead, Dayton got on the board in the eighth. After Schumm doubled with one out, Bryan Chandler moved him to third base with a ground out. Benoit ripped a double down the third base line for the lone Flyer RBI of the game and Dayton trailed 3-1.

The Billikens took the momentum back from the Flyers in the ninth with two runs on three hits. SLU then retired UD in order in the bottom of the inning to secure a berth in the A-10 Tournament with a 5-1 victory.
