DAYTON, Ohio - Homestanding Dayton rallied from an early six-run deficit to force an extra-inning before losing to George Washington, 11-7 Saturday on Senior Day at Time Warner Cable Stadium. With the loss, UD falls to 19-30 overall and 8-15 in conference play heading into Sunday's home finale with GW.

The Flyers out hit the Colonials, 12-11, but were downed by a pair of crucial errors that opened the way for two George Washington rallies.

Scott Dunwoody led the Dayton offense with a two-run homer in the third inning as part of a 3-for-6 day at the plate. Myles Swartzel also tallied three singles while scoring a run for the Flyers.

Senior Bobby Getty hit a pair of singles as well as a sacrifice fly to finish with a RBI and a run scored. Classmate Michael Massa had scored a pair of runs and was hit by a pitch in the sixth inning to become the 100th Flyer batter to be plunked this season. UD is just the 12th team in NCAA history to be hit by pitch at least 100 times in a single-season. Dayton has now been hit by pitch 101 times this year overall, which is tied for the 10th most all-time in NCAA history.

Sophomore Quinn Haselhorst allowed five earned runs on seven hits over 7.1 innings pitched in a starting role for Dayton. He struck out three and walked two before leaving in favor of Alex Dye. Dye suffered the loss after surrendering just one earned run on three hits in 2.1 innings of relief.

Senior Phil Ernst closed out the day on the mound for UD and gave up one hit in 0.1 innings pitched.

George Washington jumped all over Dayton with six runs on five hits and one UD errors in the second inning. The Flyers began to chip away at the deficit in the third inning as Scott Dunwoody hit his third homer of the season to right field, a two-run blast, to pull Dayton within four at 6-2.

The Flyers scored again in the fifth inning as Michael Massa walked and Scott Dunwoody singled through the right side of the infield to put runners at the corners with one out. Bobby Getty followed with a sacrifice fly on a line drive to right field, which made the score 6-3.

UD added another run in the sixth inning as Myles Swartzel singled to centerfield and moved to second on a two-out single by Cole Tyrell. GW then loaded the bases by hitting Kevin Miller with a pitch. Michael Massa made it back-to-back Flyer batters to be plunked as he was also hit by a pitch to send home Swartzel and make it a 6-4 game.

George Washington ledoff the eighth inning with a double down the right field line by Michael Parker. Charlie Kruer failed to advance the runner on a fly out to centerfield and Dayton went to the bullpen to replace starter Quinn Haselhorst with Alex Dye. Dye threw a wild pitch in his first delivery to the plate, but recovered to get Curtis Eward to strike out swinging. However, the UD catcher dropped the third strike and when he threw to first to complete the out, Parker broke for home and stole a run from the Flyers to put the Colonials ahead, 7-4.

Dayton rebounded to get the run back in the eighth inning as Myles Swartzel started the frame with a single to right field. He was replaced by Max Navalinski as a pinch runner and Navalinski moved to third on a double down the right field line off the bat of Frank Tedesco. After a pitching change, Cole Tyrell lifted a sacrifice fly to centerfield and UD was down by just two at 7-5.

Bobby Getty started a ninth-inning rally for UD with a single to left field. Jeff Mercer followed with a single of his own through the right side and UD has runners on first and second with no outs. After Cale Ort entered as a pinch runner at first base, Joe McSoley put two Flyers into scoring position with a sacrifice bunt. Then Max Navalinski was hit by a pitch to load the bases for Frank Tedesco. Tedesco drove in one run on a RBI ground ball to second base that left runners at first and third with two outs. Ort then scored on a wild pitch to send the game into extra innings tied at 7-all.

From there, GW took over with four runs on three hits following another UD error to run away with an 11-7 victory.
