FLYERS DROP SERIES OPENER TO FORDHAM, 6-0
May 12, 2006 BRONX, NY - Dayton dropped the opener of a pivotal Atlantic 10 Conference series at Fordham on Friday, 6-0. The Flyers (28-20, 15-7 A-10) fell down to third place in the A-10 standings with the loss and will face the Rams (22-28, 12-10 A-10) again on Saturday at 4 p.m. ET. The Flyers were held to just five hits on the night including a 2-for-4 performance by Bryan Chandler to snap a four-game winning streak. Galen Schumm was 1-for-3 with a double for the lone extra-base hit of the evening for Dayton who was shut down by Fordham starter Javier Martinez. The Rams' starter struck out nine while surrendering just three hits and four walks in seven scoreless innings pitched. After scoring an unearned run in the first, Fordham exploded for four runs on five straight hits in the second inning for a 5-0 lead. From there UD starter Kyle Lindsay settled down to allow just three base runners over the next three innings. However, the Rams scored again with a two-out rally in the sixth inning on an RBI single to left field for a 6-0 advantage. Lindsay left at the end of six innings after giving up five earned runs on 10 hits while striking out three for his first loss of the season. The Flyers had their best scoring opportunity of the game in the eighth inning. After a fly out to begin the frame, Schumm ripped a double deep into the right field corner. Chandler followed with a single to right center and UD had runners on the corners with one out. However a strikeout and a pop up to second ended the threat and Dayton went down without scoring in the ninth and fell 6-0. |
