DAYTON, Ohio - Senior Luke Trubee became the first player in Dayton history to record 200 career strikeouts as UD beat Charlotte, 6-2 on Saturday in front of 282 fans at Time Warner Cable Stadium. The Flyers (26-19, 14-6 A-10) will go for the sweep of the 49ers (29-16-1, 13-7 A-10) on Sunday at 12:30 p.m.

With the win, UD retains sole possession of third place in the Atlantic 10 Conference standings. The Flyers are just half a game back of first-place St. Bonaventure and percentage points behind second-place Rhode Island, which both won on Saturday.

Trubee struck out seven batters and scattered 11 hits in his fourth complete game performance of the season while improving to 7-6 on the year. The Roger Clemens Award nominee gave up just two runs with two outs in the bottom of the ninth to earn his 28th career victory.

Dayton was out hit 11-8 by Charlotte, but took advantage of three 49er errors on the afternoon. Bryan Chandler led UD with a 3-for-4 day including an RBI.

Michael Massa was the only other Flyer with a multi-hit day as he finished 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored.

Bobby Getty went 1-for-2 with two runs scored and an RBI while William Benoit and Craig Rohren each collected one RBI a piece for Dayton.

Massa doubled to right centerfield on the second pitch of the game to begin the Flyer offense. A walk by Getty gave UD runners on first and second with no outs. Galen Schumm then laid down a sacrifice bunt that was fielded by the pitcher and thrown high of the first baseman. Massa scored from second on the play and UD had runners on second and third with no outs. Benoit followed one out later with an RBI ground ball to the shortstop and Dayton had a 2-0 lead after one inning of play.

The Flyers broke the game open in the fifth with four runs on five hits to chase Charlotte starter Adam Mills from the mound. Dayton's fifth inning started with a ground out followed by four straight singles. Getty and Chandler each picked up one RBI a piece in the rally. Schumm later scored on a wild pitch and Rohren ripped a two-out double down the left field line as UD went up 6-0 after five innings.

Trubee held the 49er batters off the board for the first 8.2 innings of the game. However, Charlotte snapped a 17.2 inning scoreless streak with a two-out double to the right field corner to cut the lead to four for UD. Trubee and the Flyers recovered to force a fly out to center field which ended the game and secured a 6-2 Dayton victory.
