Game One Box Score | Game Two Box Score
FAIRBORN, Ohio - The University of Dayton baseball team saw its losing streak reach five games after being swept in a Tuesday night doubleheader at Wright State. UD lost game one 14-2 and fell in the nightcap 3-2 in front of 621 fans at Nischwitz Stadium. On a night in which $410 was raised for the Muscular Dystrophy Association in honor of Tony Vittorio's late mother who passed away this Fall due to ALS, Wright State collected runs in each inning of the first game during a 14-2 rout. WSU out hit UD 16-4 in the opener as Kevin Miller led the way with a 2-for-2 opener including a run scored. Michael Massa was 0-for-3 in the opener as his 20-game hitting streak came to an end. Jordan Gaietto suffered his first loss as a Flyer on the mound. He gave up nine runs on 10 hits over 2.1 innings while falling to 4-1 on the year. In the second game, lefty Cale Ort was solid on the mound throughout but came away with a no decision despite allowing just one hit over 5.2 innings pitched. Ort recorded one strikeout, but picked off a pair of runners to end the second and third innings. He left the game with two outs after hitting a batter in the sixth inning. Before that point, Dayton had built a 2-0 lead after solo runs in the second and sixth innings. William Benoit scored on a bases loaded wild pitch in the second inning for the first Flyer run. Then Massa ripped a two-out RBI single off WSU closer Joe Smith in the sixth as UD appeared to be in control entering the bottom of the sixth. After Ort plunked a Raider batter with two outs in the sixth, Chris Rubio came out of the bullpen and walked the first batter he faced on four straight pitches which loaded the bases. A two-RBI single to left center followed by a go-ahead single to centerfield gave WSU the come-from behind 3-2 victory. Dayton returns to Atlantic 10 Conference play this weekend with a pivitol series against Charlotte at Time Warner Cable Stadium. The fourth-place Flyers and first-place 49ers are separated by just one game in the standings entering this weekend's three-game series. Friday's opener starts at 2:30 p.m. ET followed by Saturday and Sunday games at 1 p.m. ET each day. All three games can be followed with live audio and Gametracker at www.DaytonFlyers.com. |
