FAIRBORN, Ohio - In a game that was filled with 23 base hits including 10 for extra bases, visiting Dayton fell short to Wright State, 14-6 in front of 907 fans on Military Appreciation Night at Nischwitz Stadium. UD (17-26) looks to snap its five-game losing streak on Friday with the beginning of a three-game Atlantic 10 series at La Salle. Friday's contest begins at 4 p.m. ET and can be followed with Gametracker at www.DaytonFlyers.com.

UD was out hit 15-8 on the evening despite multi-hit efforts by Jeff Mercer and Frank Tedesco. Mercer was 2-for-5 including a solo homer in the second inning, which was his team-leading eighth round tripper of the season. Tedesco singled twice while scoring once and driving in a pair of Flyer runs.

Scott Dunwoody and Bobby Getty each singled, scored and picked up an RBI while also being hit by a pitch. Michael DeLuca was also plunked as part of a night that saw him reach base three times overall following a single and a walk. Overall this season, UD has been hit by pitch 91 times in just 43 games played. Dayton is just nine shy of becoming the 12th team in NCAA single-season history to be hit by pitch at least 100 times.

Dayton stranded 11 runners on base and turned two double plays defensively, but could not contain Wright State's Brian Shoup who blasted two towering home runs to right field to finish 3-for-4 with a walk, four runs scored and five RBI.

The game quickly started as a slugfest in a 37-minute first inning that featured a combined nine runs, two homers, eight hits and two errors. Dayton opened with four runs as Michael Massa scored on a wild pitch to open the scoring. Bobby Getty followed with a RBI single and Frank Tedesco drove in another two-out two-RBI single.

Wright State countered with the long ball in the bottom of the frame as Casey McGrew and Brian Shoup homered on back-to-back pitches to help the Raiders take over the Flyers 5-4.

Both teams went to their bullpens for the first time to begin the second inning and Dayton responded with a solo blast to left field by Jeff Mercer to even the score at 5-5.

WSU regained the lead in the third with a perfectly placed drag bunt single to first base by John Koplichack which allowed Brian Shoup to score from third and gave the Raiders a 6-5 advantage.

The Wright State offense exploded again in the fourth as Brian Shoup blasted his second home run of the day over the scoreboard in right field, this time a grand slam as the Raiders put up five runs on two hits and one Flyer errors to go ahead 10-5 after four innings of play.

Dayton got one back in the top of the sixth as a sacrifice fly to right field by Scott Dunwoody allowed Frank Tedesco to score from third, but Wright State padded its lead with two in the bottom of the frame and two others in the seventh on its way to a 14-6 victory.
