Box Score

PITTSBURGH - Junior Michael Massa was 6-for-6 as Dayton completed a three-game sweep of Duquesne with a 10-6 win on Sunday. The Flyers (20-13, 9-3 A-10) have now won eight consecutive conference games and 10 of their last 11 overall.

Massa had five singles along with a solo home run to leadoff the seventh inning while scoring four runs. His 6-for-6 effort was a career-best day at the plate and stretched his hitting streak to 12 consecutive games as Dayton won despite missing Head Coach Tony Vittorio. Vittorio missed Sunday's game after being hospitalized in the Pittsburgh area with a stomach ailment.

Joe McSoley was 3-for-4 with a walk and three runs scored from the second spot in the lineup. Overall, the first two spots in the lineup provided seven of the 10 runs on the day for UD.

Bryan Chandler was 1-for-4 with a run scored and two RBI while William Benoit finished 1-for-4 with a double and two RBI as Dayton out hit Duquesne 13-12 in a come-from-behind win.

After Quinn Haselhorst pitched the first 3.1 innings and allowed four runs, UD went to the bullpen for one out from Cale Ort.

Chris Rubio then came on to get the Flyers out of the fourth and threw 4.1 innings while surrendering just one run on two hits. The righty improved to 3-4 on the year after three strikeouts.

After Jordan Gaietto started on the mound in the ninth, Craig Rohren moved over from first to close out the game after recording one strikeout.

UD jumped on the board with two runs in the first and another in the second. Massa and McSoley began the game with back-to-back singles. After Massa moved to third on a fly ball to right, Chandler hit an RBI groundout to the right side of the infield to plate Massa. Benoit followed with a two-out double to right centerfield for a two-run first inning lead. Roberto Ramos took advantage of wild Duquesne pitching in the second to score Dayton's third run of the game. Ramos was hit by a pitch in the back of the helmet. He then stole second and moved to third on a fly out to centerfield. The senior outfielder then scored on a wild pitch as the Flyers built a 3-0 lead.

Duquesne went through three Dayton pitchers in the fourth to take a 4-3 lead on the strength of a home run by Aaron Janusey, a two-RBI double from Corey Bugno and an RBI single by Joe Berletic.

Massa and McSoley got the Flyers started again in the fifth with back-to-back singles. After a ground ball gave UD runners at the corners, Chandler walked followed by an RBI groundout by Benoit to even the score at 4-all.

Dayton took over in the seventh after three runs. UD began with a leadoff homer to left centerfield by Massa. Rohren also drew a bases-loaded walk and Josh Burt hit an RBI ground ball to short as the Flyers built a 7-4 advantage.

UD added two more runs in the eighth after Massa ledoff with a single and scored on an RBI single to left centerfield by McSoley. Chandler also smacked an RBI single through the right side to plate McSoley as Dayton went ahead 9-4.

Duquesne got one back in the eighth on a sacrifice fly to right field, but Dayton regained its five-run lead in the top of the ninth. Frank Tedesco got the ninth started with a single up the middle and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. Kevin Miller smacked a RBI double to left centerfield to send home Tedesco as UD took a 10-5 lead.

Duquesne put up one run in the ninth on a wild pitch, but Rohren came out of the bullpen to retire three straight batters for a 10-6 Flyer victory.

Dayton returns to action on Wednesday at Cincinnati in non-conference action at 6:30 p.m. ET.
