UD SIX-GAME WIN STREAK SNAPPED BY BALL STATE, 16-5

DAYTON, Ohio - Dayton saw its six-game win streak snapped at the hands of visiting Ball State on Tuesday in non-conference baseball action at Time Warner Cable Stadium. The Flyers (16-13) look to get back on track with a road game Wednesday at Bowling Green scheduled for 3 p.m. ET. BSU (17-14) took control of the game early with a five-run first inning, but UD battled back to score five runs on six hits in the contest. The Flyer trio of Galen Schumm, Joe McSoley and Michael Massa each extended their hitting streaks to a season-best eight games. Schumm was 1-for-2 with a pair of walks and a three-run homer in the sixth inning. The blast was the fourth of the season for the senior second baseman and the third in the last four games. McSoley was the only Flyer to record a multi-hit game with a 2-for-4 day at the plate. The junior third baseman also scored a run and drove in another with a sacrifice fly in the eighth inning. Massa finished 1-for-4 with a hit by pitch and scored both times he reached base with runs in the sixth and eighth innings. Senior Josh Burt was 1-for3 with a double and run scored while freshman Myles Swartzel had a pinch-hit single in the ninth inning. With a double in the sixth inning, Burt extended his hitting streak to a career-best five consecutive games. JC transfer Chris Rubio suffered the loss for the Flyers after allowing five runs, two earned on four hits. The righthander struck out one while walking two in 2.0 innings pitched. Jordan Gaietto came out of the bullpen to allow 11 runs, seven earned on 10 hits over 4.2 innings pitched. The junior righty struck out three while surrendering just one walk. Freshman Jose Borges made his collegiate debut for UD with 2.1 innings pitched in relief. The native of Puerto Rico gave up just two hits while striking out two of the nine batters he faced. |
