OXFORD, Ohio - Visiting Dayton used a five-run fifth inning burst to earn its third straight victory, 7-3, at Miami (Ohio) on Wednesday evening. The win lifts the Flyers' record to 13-7 heading into a three-game Atlantic 10 series at home this weekend against Rhode Island. UD out hit MU 13-6 as Ryan Nevill and Scott Dunwoody posted three hits each. Nevill doubled while scoring once and driving in two more runs during a 3-for-4 effort. Dunwoody finished 3-for-4 with a sacrifice bunt, run scored and a RBI.

Cole Tyrell also singled and picked up a pair of RBI while Jacob Spaeth and Jake Hoover had multi-hit evenings at the plate for the Flyers which improved to 12-5 against non-conference competition this season.

Matt Speckman earned the victory in his first start of the season throwing 3.1 scoreless innings while striking out two and surrendering only two base hits.

Five other Flyer pitchers took to the mound on the day as Miami was limited to three runs on six hits while striking out eight times and walking only four times.

Dayton began its offense in the third inning Kevin Miller drew a walk with one out and then advanced to second on a wild pitch. He moved up to third on a groundout and scored on a single through the right side of the infield by Scott Dunwoody. The junior's two-out RBI gave the Flyers a 1-0 lead.

UD added another run in the fourth with back-to-back doubles with one out by Max Navalinski and Ryan Nevill to go ahead 2-0.

Jacob Spaeth singled through the right side to start another rally for the Flyers in the fifth inning. Scott Dunwoody followed with a single of his own to left field. After one out Jake Hoover followed with a RBI single to centerfield to plate Scott Dunwoody and Marshall MacDonald moved from first to second on the play. Miami then went to its bullpen and Max Navalinski was hit by the first pitch from the RedHawk reliever to load the bases. Ryan Nevill was plunked three pitches later to push home another run and keep the bases loaded with one out. Cole Tyrell lifted a two-RBI single to left centerfield and Kevin Miller hit a RBI single through the left side of the infield to put Dayton ahead 7-0.

Miami scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth, but Dayton's pitching staff shut the door the remainder of the way to give the Flyers their third consecutive victory.
