UD DROPS RAIN-SHORTENED DECISION AT TENNESSEE TECH, 12-1
March 19, 2008
COOKEVILLE, TN - Visiting Dayton was hampered by seven fielding errors and heavy rain in the Volunteer State as the Flyers lost at Tennessee Tech, 12-1 in a game that was shortened to six innings due to rain. TTU scored four runs in the first, second and fifth innings with the help of UD errors in the field. The Flyers made two errors in the first, three in the second and one in the fifth to account for six unearned Golden Eagle runs. Jake Hoover continued his strong play of late with two of Dayton's three base hits on the evening. He also walked and scored the lone Flyer run in the fourth inning. Ryan Nevill also doubled and stole a base in the fourth for Dayton, which fell to 10-5 on the season. Marshall MacDonald saw his seven-game hitting streak come to an end, but joined Max Navalinski by drawing a walk to account for two of UD's five base runners in the game. The freshmen duo of Willy Balbach and Tim Lynn combined to allow 12 runs, six earned, on 10 hits over 6.0 innings pitched. Dayton will begin its Atlantic 10 Conference season this weekend at Time Warner Cable Stadium against Xavier. The Flyers and Musketeers will meet on Saturday (1 p.m. ET), Sunday (1 p.m. ET) and Monday (4 p.m. ET) in games that will feature Gametracker at www.DaytonFlyers.com. |
