DAYTON WALLOPS NYIT, 30-7 AT FGCU CLASSIC

FORT MEYERS, FL - Dayton dominated from start to finish in a 30-7 rout of New York Institute of Technology on Friday at the FGCU Classic. The win was the second straight for UD which improved to 6-9 overall this season. The Flyers also changed their schedule for the final day of the FGCU Classic. Travel problems by Harvard forced the cancellation of UD's game with the Crimson on Saturday. Dayton will now play Notre Dame on Saturday at 1 p.m. ET in a game that can be followed with Gametracker at www.DaytonFlyers.com. The Flyers pounded out 23 hits and had six different players tally multi-RBI performances. Frank Tedesco with a pair of doubles and a sacrifice bunt in a 2-for-6 day that included a run scored and six RBI. Shawn Gizynski was 4-for-5 with a double, two runs scored and five RBI. Sophomore Max Navalinski continued his strong start to the season with a 2-for-4 with a home run, hit by pitch, four runs scored and four RBI. Senior Bobby Getty was hit by pitch twice and finished 4-for-5 with two doubles, four runs scored and two RBI while Joe McSoley added a double, four runs scored and two RBI in a 4-for-5 day of his own. Sophomore Jeff Mercer belted a home run while going 2-for-5 with three runs scored and two RBI as all nine Flyer starters scored at least one run on the afternoon. Scott Dunwoody went 3-for-5 with four runs scored while Michael Massa scored three runs and Cole Tyrell plated a run for the UD starters. Myles Swartzel was 1-for-2 with two runs scored and a RBI off the bench while Justin McManus scored a run in his collegiate debut for the Flyers. Dayton is scheduled to close out play at the FGCU Classic on Saturday against Harvard at Noon ET. |
