DAYTON, Ohio - The University of Dayton Flyers rolled over the Butler Bulldogs 13-5 in their home opener at Time Warner Cable Stadium on Wednesday.

Senior first baseman Marshall MacDonald had a fiery 5-of-5 day at the plate. MacDonald had one home run in addition to his five hits and two runs scored.

Right fielder Aaron Dunsmore was 3-of-4 on the day for UD. Dunsmore swatted a double and crossed the plate twice for the good guys.

Dayton pitched eight scoreless innings in the midweek matinee. Freshman southpaw Cameron Hobson made his first start of the season against the Bulldogs earning his first win of the season. Hobson pitched three scoreless innings punching out six with strikeouts.

Mike Hauschild also tossed three innings for the Flyers. He struck out one and walked two in the outing. Eric Wagner, Tim Corbey and Chuck Ghysels all saw one inning of action in the win.

The Flyers had a field day hitting on Wednesday. As a team they combined for 21 hits on the day, with each starter notching at least one hit in the game.

UD opened the scoring on a base hit to left field by catcher Scott Dunwoody to bring in Myles Swartzel and Max Navalinski.

Dayton continued the offensive onslaught in the third as Dunsmore scored off an errant throw to second base. Tyrell scored moments later on Navalinski's drive to left field to extend the Flyer lead to 4-0.

A nine run offensive explosion in the fifth and sixth innings, marked by homers from MacDonald and Cole Tyrell put the game well in hand for UD.

Butler attempted a comeback in the ninth inning as a pair of errors early on sparked a rally. However, Ghysels and company were able to secure the win with a called strikeout on the final at-bat.

Dayton is back in action this weekend when they face Cleveland State in a three game series at Time Warner Cable Stadium.
