WINSTON-SALEM, NC - Dayton had four players with multi-RBI efforts, but could not overcome a three-run ninth inning rally by Appalachian State during a 13-12 loss in the finale of a doubleheader on Saturday.

Max Navalinski led the charge for UD offensively. The sophomore was 4-for-5 with two doubles, three RBI and two runs scored for the Flyers who also had two RBI each from Michael Massa, Joe McSoley and Cale Ort.

McSoley also scored twice while freshman Cole Tyrell finished 3-for-5 with a double, RBI and two runs scored of his own.

Sophomore lefthander Quinn Haselhorst started on the hill for the Flyers and gave up seven earned runs on eight hits. Haselhorst struck out four and walked two in 4.1 innings pitched.

He was replaced by Ryan Hill who gave up three runs on three hits while fanning two batters in 2.0 innings on the mound.

Senior Kyle Lindsay suffered the loss despite striking out three batters in 2.1 innings pitched. The righty gave up three runs on three hits while walking four batters.

Dayton got off to a quick start in the finale with three runs in the top of the first behind some strong play by Cole Tyrell. The Flyer freshman smacked a RBI double and then stole home to score later in the frame as UD built a 3-0 lead after its first trip to the plate.

ASU would score two runs in the second and another in the third to even the score before exploding for five runs in the fifth to build an 8-3 advantage.

UD would claw its way back into the game with a pair of runs in the sixth inning on an RBI single from Joe McSoley and a RBI triple by Michael Massa. After the Mountaineers scored twice in the bottom of the sixth, Dayton answered back with four runs on four hits in the top of the seventh to make it a 10-9 deficit. Sophomore Max Navalinski would provide the big hit in the rally for the Flyers with a two RBI double to plate Cole Tyrell and Bobby Getty.

Appalachian State gave itself a cushion with a run in the eighth inning, but Dayton came back with three runs in the top of the ninth inning to build a 12-11 advantage. Cale Ort ripped a two RBI double to lead the Flyer charge, but it was not enough as ASU scored three times in the bottom of the ninth to steal victory from UD, 13-12.
