WINSTON-SALEM, NC - Visiting Dayton got off to a rough start with a 20-2 loss to Appalchian State in the opener of a Saturday doubleheader at Erine Shore Field. The second game will begin at 3:30 p.m. ET and can be followed with live stats at www.DaytonFlyers.com.

UD (2-5) was held to just six hits in the loss while ASU rattled off 25 hits including 10 for extra bases in the game.

Cole Tyrell, Bobby Getty, Michael DeLuca, Max Navalinski, Frank Tedesco and Joe McSoley each singled for the Flyers. Navalinski added a run scored while Scott Dunwoody also plated a run on the afternoon.

Senior Chris Rubio fell to 0-2 on the season after surrendering eight earned runs on 13 hits over the first 3.2 innings pitched. The righthander struck out three while walking two batters.

Sophomore Sean Finn finished the fourth inning with a walk before retiring a batter and giving way to Chris Beesley. Beesley allowed seven earned runs on seven hits over the next 1.2 innings pitched.

Senior Phil Ernst finished the day on the mound for UD. He gave up two runs on five hits over 2.1 innings pitched. Ernst struck out four and did not surrender a walk.
