GREENSBORO, NC - Despite a two-run lead in the first inning for the second straight game, Dayton suffered a 10-5 defeat at the hands of High Point in Saturday's series finale at First Horizon Park. The Flyers fell to 2-4 on the season with the loss.

Cole Tyrell smacked his first career homer to left field in the first inning to give UD a 2-0 lead. The freshman rounded out his first weekend of collegiate action that saw him collect four RBI and two extra base hits in three games.

Dayton was held to just five hits in the nightcap as junior Scott Dunwoody led the Flyers with a 2-for-3 performance that included a double, sacrifice fly and a run scored.

Frank Tedesco and Joe McSoley each picked up a RBI while Michael Massa and Kevin Miller scored one run apiece for the Flyers who had base runners in 22 of 27 innings played on the weekend.

Sophomore Sean Finn suffered his first loss of the season for UD after allowing seven runs, just three of which were earned, on six hits in the first 1.2 innings pitched.

Finn gave way to senior lefty Cale Ort who surrendered just two earned runs on six hits over the next 5.0 innings pitched.

Alex Dye and Chris Beesley combined to shutout the Panthers for the final 1.1 innings of the game. Dye threw one inning of no-hit relief while picking up a strikeout while Beesley got the final out on the mound for the Flyers in the top of the ninth.

After Michael Massa was hit by a pitch to leadoff the game, Cole Tyrell lifted his first collegiate homer over the left field wall for a 2-0 Flyer lead after the top half of the first inning.

High Point came back in the bottom of the second with seven runs on six hits and two Flyer errors in the field to take a commanding 7-2 advantage. Robby Kuzdale and Bill Manion each picked up two RBI in the frame with a double and single respectively for HPU.

Dayton started to work its way back into the game with two runs on two hits in the top of the fifth inning. Scott Dunwoody began the charge with a leadoff single up the middle and then advanced to second on a wild pitch. After Kevin Miller walked to give UD runners on first and second, Frank Tedesco singled home Dunwoody. Miller advanced to third on the play and scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Joe McSoley to pull the Flyers with three at 7-4.

However, High Point added two more runs in the bottom of the same inning to regain control of the momentum with a 9-4 lead.

The Flyers got one back in the sixth inning when Cole Tyrell scored on a sacrifice fly to centerfield by Scott Dunwoody with the bases loaded and one out, but UD could not cross the plate for the remainder of the game and eventually fell, 10-5.
