GREENSBORO, NC - Senior Michael Massa was 4-for-5 from the leadoff spot and sophomore Quinn Haselhorst threw 7.1 strong innings as Dayton beat High Point, 4-2 in the opener of a series ending doubleheader on Saturday at First Horizon Park. Massa finished 4-for-5 with a double and two runs scored to account for half of UD's eight hits in Saturday's opener.

Scott Dunwoody was 1-for-4 with two RBI while Cole Tyrell (1-for-4) and Joe McSoley (0-for-4) each drove in one run for the Flyers (2-3).

Sophomore Max Navalinski and senior Bobby Getty scored one run apiece as the Flyers led from start to finish.

Southpaw Quinn Haselhorst scattered seven hits over 7.1 innings pitched to earn his first victory of the season. The sophomore lefthander struck out just one batter and allowed two earned runs on the day.

Senior righty Kyle Lindsay was awarded a save after 1.2 scoreless innings of relief. Lindsay allowed just one base runner on a two-out walk in the ninth inning.

The Flyers started their attack in the top of the first inning with two runs on two hits and one High Point error. Michael Massa led off the game with a single through the left side of the infield. Then Bobby Getty reached base on an error by the Panther shortstop to give UD runners on first and second with no outs. After one Flyer batter was retired, Shawn Gizynski was hit by a pitch to load the bases for Scott Dunwoody. The UD junior singled through the right side to drive in Massa from third base and give Dayton its first run of the game. Senior Joe McSoley stepped to the plate with the bases loaded and one out and earned another RBI on a fielder's choice as the Flyers went ahead 2-0 after their first trip to the plate.

High Point got one back in the second inning off an RBI single by Pablo Rosario, but Dayton regained a two-run lead in the fourth inning when freshman Cole Tyrell ripped a one-out double down the left field line to plate Max Navalinski to make it a 3-1 score.

UD added more offense in the seventh beginning with a lead off single up the middle by Michael Massa. Then Bobby Getty reached on an error by the centerfielder as Dayton again had runners on first and second with no outs. Jeff Mercer advanced the pair into scoring position with a sacrifice bunt. Then Shawn Gizynski walked to load the bases with one out to bring Scott Dunwoody to the plate. The Flyer junior delivered again with a RBI groundout to second base for a 4-1 Dayton advantage.

High Point pulled to within two runs on a RBI groundout by Robby Kuzdale, but Kyle Lindsay came out of the Flyer bullpen in the eighth to close out the final 1.2 innings as UD secured a 4-2 victory.
