The University of Dayton baseball team fell victim to a late Youngstown State rally and lost the first game of a doubleheader, 4-2 Saturday at the Southeastern Baseball Complex.

With the loss, Dayton falls to 2-2 on the year while Youngstown won its season opener.

Junior Craig Stammen (1-1) began the day on the mound for UD, but suffered his first loss of the season after allowing four runs on four hits while striking out four over 6.0 innings pitched.

Senior Drew Chesebro came on in the seventh to finish off the game on the mound for the Flyers without allowing a hit.

UD managed just five hits in the game as Roberto Ramos led the way with a 2-for-3 performance which included his first career extra base hit, a double in the fifth inning.

Dayton began the scoring with a run each in the first and second innings.

With one out in the first, Bobby Getty walked and then stole second before coming around to score on an RBI single to right by Galen Schumm. The hit was Schumm's second RBI of the season and led to Getty's third run scored this year.

In the second, William Benoit hit a one-out solo home run over the left field wall to extend his hitting streak to four games at put Dayton ahead, 2-0. It was Benoit's second round tripper of the season and fourth RBI and run scored.

After holding the Pengiuns scoreless for the first five innings, YSU followed a fly out to centerfield with a single, double and walk to load the bases for Jim Phillips. The senior outfielder smacked a grand slam homer past the left field wall to give Youngstown State a 4-2 lead they would never relinquish.
